The origins of the long, slim fly trace back to the Collie Dog and Sunray Shadow. We have a soft spot for the gracefully tapered fly, and our rendition—the Samurai—has proven to be exceptional. The small turbo paired with the long, straight wing creates an elongated drop form. Sparse and translucent, it's made to be fished fast. The question is, dare you fish them fast enough?

THE FLY

MODEL TORRISH SAMURAI

A Samurai for coloured water – for the days when the flies needs to appear with contrast and colour. When flash is necessary and yellow and orange stand out best. Maybe fished deeper than normal Samurai style, at least worth to try. It has also proven to be one of the flies that really triggers the fall fish. Fish it fast and the big colourful males will chase it to kill.

MODEL BLACK SAMURAI

The most classic of all maybe - a long thin black fly. Ever since Ray Brooks invented the Sunray Shadow the long thin black fly been a worldwide favourite. Fished super-fast this is often a very good strategy! Fish this daytime and not only at dusk. The perfect fly for the dark have a thicker profile. The long black slim drop form makes it a great daytime fly – just dare to fish it fast enough!

MODEL RUSTY SAMURAI

With the colours from the favourite Pahtakorva and the fast fly’s long slim drop form and killer profile, the Rusty Samurai has become a favourite in humus coloured rivers. Sometimes I even fish it with the traditional black and white Samurai wing, but the brown harmonizes so good with the humus colour of many rivers. A “Pahta Samurai” – the best of two worlds!

MODEL ORANGE SAMURAI

Slightly tinted water, a good cloud and fish that have been in the river some time - at this time is there anything better than an Orange Samurai fished fast? This fly as many others was first tied for a certain mission! The Orange Samurai has proven to be just perfect for what it once was created for. The dirtier the water the slower you need to fish it, but remember the Samurai should be bigger and fished faster – that’s the basic law.

MODEL ZEBRA SAMURAI

The latest family member has taken many great fish already. The extra contrast from the white tubing against the black wing will help trigger the fish. The teal hackle gives it a touch of the classic look. Over all it’s a general favourite that will fish on any conditions and almost in any size. Maybe we prefer it on that clear river on a cloudy day on the best beat on the classic big fish river.
