FLY SALMON SERIES CLASSIC

This is our largest fly series. We call them classics because of the way they are tied: a wing dividing the front hackles and with the balancing 1/2 turbo cone as head. Most of our flies originates from this family, the complex fly with all ingredients. To us these are the most fun to both tie and fish – they are the classics of our time!

Our fly series are meticulously crafted by what we consider to be the best commercial tiers in the world. With nearly two decades of training under their belts, these artisans skillfully embody Mikael's distinctive style, where each turn of the tying thread holds paramount importance – focusing on tapering, translucency, and movement. We prioritize quality by carefully selecting materials, utilizing our proprietary FITS materials, SSS Synthetics, premium hair, and Whiting hackles.

THE FLY

MODEL SILVER DOCTOR

“The Sunshine Doctor” is a truly remarkable sunshine fly. On bright days, it works well in most clear rivers. We prefer it translucent and a bit more sparsely tied. With its red head and butt, it carries the signature of the Doctor flies. It works in all sizes depending on the conditions and water temperature. If you like this, also check out the more sparsely tied Spey version that we prefer for low water conditions. We've kept the original colour concept, enhanced it with our SSS synthetics, and transformed it into a soft, modern, drop-formed classic that will outfish the original feather wing.

MODEL THE DUNKELD

A great pattern where the brown and gold actually inspired Mr. Norling to tie the original Tempeldog fly. Brown and gold, as seen in the fantastic Pahtakorva, is an excellent combination for slightly humus-coloured waters. This makes it a great standard fly for most rivers. With its double JC substitute feathers, it’s not only effective but also a beauty to tie on. We've kept the original colour concept, enhanced it with our SSS synthetics, and transformed it into a soft, modern, drop-formed classic that will swim and outfish the original feather wing.

MODEL GREEN HIGHLANDER

In our collection of old flies, the Green Highlander is rare, but as a classic for modern fishing, it's one of the most common. This is likely due to its excellent colours for the clear, greenish waters of many Scandinavian rivers. We believe in harmonising fly colour with water, and the Green Highlander has given us many great fish. We fish them in various sizes, from broad and big down to very small and sparse. It’s a great pattern that has influenced several of our other flies. We've kept the original colour concept, enhanced it with our SSS synthetics, and transformed it into a soft, modern, drop-formed classic that will swim and outfish the original feather wing.

MODEL THE CHILDERS

One of the very old classic patterns originating from Colonel Childers, we love the colour combinations over the dubbed brushed body. This translucent, colourful pattern is ideal for waters with a bit of colour. On a sunny day, when the sun shines through that whiskey-coloured water, the Childers is a great fly. We have preserved the original colour concept, enhanced it with our SSS synthetics, and transformed it into a soft, modern, drop-formed classic that will outfish the original feather wing.

MODEL DURHAM RANGER

With this classic fly, Mikael caught his first ever salmon. Originally a feather wing tied on a small tube, we have imitated the golden pheasant tippet feather by striping a burnt orange wing with a marker. This odd but effective technique maintains the typical look of the original fly without losing its swimming capacity. The Durham Ranger, originating from the Scottish River Tay, is superb in coloured forest water or after a flood. We have preserved the original colour concept, enhanced it with our SSS synthetics, and transformed it into a soft, modern, drop-formed classic that will outfish the original feather wing.

MODEL BLACK DOG

This classic fly is one that Mikael has tied for many collectors and is also one of his personal favourites. The old Master Kelson wrote that it was one of his father's best flies. Originating from way back, the heron hackle likely contributed to its renown. The black, soft-swimming fly works great as an all-around standard for cloudy days in clear rivers. We have preserved the original colour concept, enhanced it with our SSS synthetics, and transformed it into a soft, modern classic that will swim and outfish the original feather wing.
