The origins of the long, slim fly trace back to the Collie Dog and Sunray Shadow. We have a soft spot for the gracefully tapered fly, and our rendition—the Samurai—has proven to be exceptional. The small turbo paired with the long, straight wing creates an elongated drop form. Sparse and translucent, it's made to be fished fast. The question is, dare you fish them fast enough?

MODEL LION SAMURAI

The dirty yellow fly has gained more and more popularity. The same goes for the long winged Samurai style of fly. The Lion Samurai is a dirty yellow fast swimmer with a brownish copper sparkling discrete front half. It’s a superb fly for that fast swing in a slightly tinted river on a sunny day. We fish them thin in almost all sizes, perhaps the medium 6-8 cm Lion coloured Samurai is our favourite. It’s a good option to the Nasty Banana especially if you are brave and allows that big downstream belly to make it fish faster and faster...

MODEL MIKKELI SAMURAI

The superb evening and night colours of the Mikkeli Blue combined with the slim profile of the Samurai is a great combo. This gives us many beautiful fish, fish it in the magic hour when the light is fading. And when tying it don’t be afraid to give it a bit broader back, that way it creates a better silhouette for the dark night.

MODEL ALLY SAMURAI

Yes, here we have taken the colours from the famous Ally Shrimp and dressed up a Samurai and it’s a super fly on the dirty river. Sometimes that fast orange fly is what does the trick even in clearer waters. Perhaps this works the best towards the end of the season. Please remember to tie it slim and fish it fast, that’s what it’s designed for and that’s when it’s deadliest.

MODEL GREEN SAMURAI

Many, many years Pahtakorva in different versions gave Mikael most fish. Then this little deadly fly saw the light. Now it’s one of his top three flies every year and is our favourite in the Samurai family. Choose the right size, anything from 3-15 cm and fish it almost straight across the river. Warning - the takes will be fierce!

MODEL WILLIE GUN SAMURAI

Is this the best colour combination of them all? Of course, not for all conditions but the magic of the harmony of these colours is unbeaten. As soon as there is a tint of colour to the river this is a superb fly, fast on a downstream belly it will do miracles. This is a favourite for many, perhaps this will be the Samurai that in total will outsmart most salmon.
