FLY SALMON SERIES CLASSIC

This is our largest fly series. We call them classics because of the way they are tied: a wing dividing the front hackles and with the balancing 1/2 turbo cone as head. Most of our flies originates from this family, the complex fly with all ingredients. To us these are the most fun to both tie and fish – they are the classics of our time!

TOP-TIER CRAFTMANSHIP

Our fly series are meticulously crafted by what we consider to be the best commercial tiers in the world. With nearly two decades of training under their belts, these artisans skillfully embody Mikael's distinctive style, where each turn of the tying thread holds paramount importance – focusing on tapering, translucency, and movement. We prioritize quality by carefully selecting materials, utilizing our proprietary FITS materials, SSS Synthetics, premium hair, and Whiting hackles. Presently, our skilled tiers operate in state-of-the-art facilities in Thailand, pushing the boundaries of fly tying artistry. THE FLY

MODEL THE BUTCHER

Our latest additions to the Classic Series are true to their name – classic in every sense. The Butcher is our oldest pattern, initially known as "Moon’s Fly". It was William Blacker who, in 1818, renamed it to the Butcher, likely due to its remarkable ability to produce great catches. We love this complex fly and fish it under heavy clouds in rivers that are clear or slightly coloured. We have preserved the original colour concept, enhanced it with our SSS synthetics, and transformed it into a soft, modern drop-formed classic that will swim and outfish the original feather wing.

MODEL RED SANDY

There are very few bright red salmon flies, and we have cherished this special pattern for decades. The dominant JC feathers and the silver bright red appearance make it truly unique. Instead of integrating the JC substitutes into the wing, we have positioned them to face the fish directly, creating an impression that we know works. We believe many of our patterns could benefit from showing the Jungle Cock to the fish instead of the angler. We have preserved the original colour concept, enhanced it with our SSS synthetics, and transformed it into a soft, modern drop-formed classic that will swim and outfish the original feather wing.

MODEL PAHTAKORVA

Mikael’s most well-known pattern. A fly that has taken tens of thousands of salmon. We fish it gladly and often. A standard fly which works everywhere, it might be best in tea coloured rivers. Every year this fantastic fly gives us some of our best fish, no matter where we go it simply works. Voted among the locals as the best fly on the best river in the world – the Alta.

MODEL GREELANDER

The Classic Greenlander tube fly is a pattern that’s been with us a couple of decades now, but it originates from two of the most classic of all clearwater flies: the Green Highlander and the Silver Grey. This cross breed is a superb sunshine fly. It’s one of Mikaels absolute favorite sunshine flies and has given fish in rivers around the world. We fish it from a few mm on a BTT, micro or nano design but also like this classic, slightly bigger version. It’s a pattern we seldom fish in the biggest sizes, maybe because big fly conditions very seldom appear in the clearest water.

MODEL BLACK & SILVER

A real all-round fly. Sparkling silver against black gives the best contrast. If you don’t know what to pick? Choose a black fly! This is one of my absolute favorites for clear water cloudy days, or in the dawn or dusk wherever you fish. The Black & Silver has saved many fishing days. I fish them in all sizes, down to the tiniest little sparsely dressed version.

MODEL NASTY BANANA

The Banana Fly concept has been popular ever since Micke Andersson showed the world how good the dirty yellow fly could be. For Mikael personally he fished his Scott and Moonshine flies long before he created this version. We tinted it to the olive side and pimped it a bit classic style with the dyed teal hackle. We prefer to fish this in the humus coloured river when we need a discrete fly to stand out a bit more than my overall favourite Pahtakorva. We seldom fish them bigger than 10 cm or smaller than 4, for us it’s a medium sized fly.
